Often after I meet people and tell them what I do, there is a pause, followed by “So, what do you actually do?” It’s a fair question. The word ‘Concierge’ tends to sum up someone sitting behind a desk – in a posh hotel, or the lobby of a block of flats. The average brit does not relate this to their day to day life.
‘Lifestyle Manager’ has a slightly higher recognition factor, but nearly as many red herrings. It’s often confused with ‘Life Coach’. A life coach helps you set and achieve goals. A Lifestyle Manager handles all the small tasks to free up your time to work on those goals.
So, what do we actually do? Some highlights from the past few weeks:
- Short listing second hand cars to a client’s requirements.
- Finding a rental flat for someone moving to Glasgow. Then arranging to have it furnished and ready to move in.
- Running a monthly networking event on behalf of a local venue
- Collecting a car from a garage
- Processing internet orders for a local business.
- Sending out and following up invoices.
- Laundry.
- Getting a bathroom stripped back to bare brick and re-fitted and finished, including supervising the work.
- Phoning round venues to get menus and quotes for a Christmas night out.
So, what does a Concierge do? We find, we plan, we organise, we know who to call, we sweat the small stuff.
