Christmas Shopping Part 1

While it’s easy to just go to a massive online retailer and buy generic gifts, I’d really like to recommend some brilliant, local suppliers and manufacturers.

Your friends and family will getting something cool and different, and you’ll be supporting some cracking businesses.

Gifts for Blokes

Get Around Glasgow Get Around Glasgow make utterly brilliant T-Shirts.  Get one for the ex-pat Glaswegian in your life. And for the resident Glaswegian.  The designs are witty and wearable, and you get the huge bonus of being able to get the design you want in the colour and size you want.

Gifts for Foodies

If you’ve got a foodie in your life, odds are you’ve been looking in catalogues at weird and wonderful kitchen gadgets.  Well take it from someone who loves both cooking and eating (a lot) if your foodie really wanted a potato ricer, or a spaghetti twirler they would probably already have one, or would have asked you specifically for the gadget.

Here are a couple of alternatives that will go down a treat.

Piece is everything you could possibly want a deli and sandwich shop to be – and they’ve just revealed their new Hamper Brochure.  So wander down to Argyle Street, grab a coffee and let Laukner or Moore sort you out with some serious cheese and goodies.

The Cook School in Kilmarnock offers themed days and ‘Demo and Dine’ evenings where you can watch, learn and eat.  The chefs are friendly and knowledgeable and the recipes easy to follow – let alone very tasty! If it sounds like I’m a big fan, that’s because I’ve been there, and I am.  My family are having their Goats cheese and beetroot tart as our Christmas day starter.  You can go with a friend, or on your own.  They sell gift vouchers through their website, and there’s a shop on site too.

Gifts for Women

Crafting is cool.  And The Life Craft can show you how it’s done.  They offer a wide range of glasses and materials for all kinds of needlework, jewellery making and other crafts, from basic learning to sew to more advanced techniques. They also do kids ‘messy play’ and have a cafe.  Email them to find out what’s coming up or to arange gift vouchers.  Or pop in – did I mention they have cake?

Gifts for Everyone

Gifted People Sometimes people need to decide for themselves. Let them! A transferrable gift voucher for a wide range of local sensible, and not-sensible businesses.
